2024 Wrap Up
- Abusement Park 574 points: A strong draft highlighted by the highest scoring player in the league, Joe Burrow (QB01/128 points), a 4th round steal. First rounder Bijan Robinson (RB03/107 points) delivered the goods and two later round RBs in 5th rounder James Conner (RB10/76 points) and 6th rounder David Montgomery (RB18/61 points) contributed to score 230 points at the RB position (3rd all-time). Nico Collins (WR18/60 points) was a solid pick in round 2 despite missing 5 games. A mid-year trade with G Practice Unit for Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR03/85 points) by parting with Purdy (QB11/75 points) and George Pickens (WR45/38 points) helped to seal the win. Second highest finish in league history.
- Team Whitey 543 points: A career year from Ja'Marr Chase (WR01/123 points), who slipped to the end of the 1st round because of a contract dispute, headlined this draft. 6th round pick Brandon Aubrey (PK01/96 points, a record for a kicker) was widely panned for being picked too early, but he outscored the next best kicker by 22 points and ended up being worth the pick. 2nd rounder Patrick Mahomes (QB09/77 points) was a bit of a disappoitment as the first QB taken, as was 3rd rounder Rachaad White (RB22/30 points). George Kittle (WR11/675 points), a waiver pickup, and Ladd McConkey (WR18/60 points) were nice late additions that helped him finish 2nd at WR.
- US Americans 528 points: A solid and deep team that lacked a superstar player. Finished 4th at RB with 3rd rounder Josh Jacobs (RB05/92 points) and 4th rounder James Cook (RB09/77 points). Finished 3rd at WR with 2nd rounder Puka Nacua (WR14/62 points) and 2nd rounder A.J. Brown (WR22/59 points), which was solid but a little disappointing given the draft capital invested. Jared Goff (QB04/108 points) was a steal in round 5. 11th rounder Brian Thomas Jr. (WR04/83 points) was one of the great steals of the draft but was only started 5 times. Jayden Daniels (QB06/90 points), J.K. Dobbins (RB23/50points) and Jayden Reed (WR34/47 points) round out other players on this team who were startable but underutilized. As I often say about his teams, victory could have been achieved with a few strategic trades.
- Glory Holes 492 points: A solid team that had a really good top of the draft with a couple of key misses and a little mismanagement. 1st rounder Josh Allen (QB05/104 points) was a good pick, as were 3rd rounder De'Von Achane (RB06/85 points) and 4th rounder Malik Nabers (WR07/70 points), although with Nabers he missed out on 25 points the 3 times he didn't start him. 1st rounder Jonathan Taylor (RB10/76 points) and 5th rounder Zay Flowers (WR28/52 points) were okay but a little disappointing. 6th rounder Jonathon Brooks (RB99/1 point) and 7th rounder Kyle Pitts (WR74/25 points) were massive busts, and he held on to Brooks until week 14. Bo Nix (QB08/56 points) was a nice waiver pickup but he didn't really need him. Once again, loading up on Dallas defensive players in the draft lands him an 11th place finish on defense, but at least he's consistent. Nice team but never a contender.
- Stumps 488 points: Insanely good RBs lead by 1st rounder Saquon Barkley (RB02/116 points) and 4th rounder Alvin Kamara (RB08/80 points) who combined to help him score 233 RB points (2nd all time). Unfortunately, 3rd rounder C.J. Stroud (QB20/52 points) was terrible as was 2nd rounder Marvin Harrison Jr. (WR40/42 points). He tried to juggle 6th rounder Terry McLaurin (WR07/70 points), 5th rounder DK Metcalf (WR36/45 points) and 14th rounder Jordan Mason (RB32/34 points) at flex but couldn't get it right and finished last at WR. Led the league on defense and was second at kicker with an incredible season from Cameron Dicker (PK03/68 points). Finishing last at QB and WR sunk his chances. Only made 2 waiver pickups all year.
- Superbowl Bound 475 points: Other than two great draft picks in 2nd rounder Jahmyr Gibbs (RB01/117 points) and 4th rounder Lamar Jackson (QB02/122 points), this team was pretty middling. 1st rounder Garrett Wilson (WR17/61 points) was just okay and 3rd rounder Jaylen Waddle (WR60/32 points) was a bust. 7th rounder Chris Godwin (WR48/36 points, WR03 in the first 7 games) was looking like a middle round steal until he got hurt. Didn't hit on any late round or waiver picks, whiffed on defense and finished last with 15 points. Finished 10th at kicker. Finished 9-9 at head to head. A Jeff Fisher type season.
- Sactown Shrimpers 458 points: A couple of nice draft picks, like 2nd rounder Kyren Williams (RB07/82 points), 8th rounder Jaxon Smith-Njigba (WR06/71 points), and 10th round steal Chuba Hubbard (RB15/68 points), headlined a draft with a number of misses, especially at WR. 1st rounder Breece Hall (RB15/68 points) was a disappointment at pick 4, and he wisely traded him in week 10 to Matt for Baker Mayfield (QB03/117 points) who scored 49 points for him in the last 7 weeks and also helped him win the playoffs with a 14 point game in week 17. 3rd rounder Dak Prescott (QB29/34 points) got hurt and 4th rounder Michael Pittman Jr. (WR48/36 points), 5th rounder Tank Dell (WR71/27 points) and 6th rounder Javonte Williams (RB31/38 points) were all busts. Finished 11th at WR with all those misses, and would have been on the bottom if not for waiver wire steal Jameson Williams (WR18/60 points). Grabbing Andrew Van Ginkel (DF01/22 points) on the waiver wire helped him finish 3rd on defense.
- Brighton Bruisers 451 points: Drafted using a zero RB strategy with mixed results. 1st rounder Justin Jefferson (WR02/94 points) and 3rd rounder Drake London (WR07/70 points) were studs and helped him finish 1st at WR. 4th rounder Kenneth Walker III (RB26/47 points) missed 5 games and wasn't a reliable starter. 6th rounder Najee Harris (RB21/52 points) was barely startable and Adam rode him for 14 starts. He only managed 74 points at RB, finishing last the position. Waited until round 6 to draft Jordan Love (QB14/69 points) who was disappointing, but started using 13th round steal Sam Darnold (QB06/90 points) who helped him to a 4th place finish at QB. Biggest mistake was trading away 8th round steal Chase Brown (RB14/72 points) to George right before Zack Moss got hurt and missed out on the 56 points he scored in the last 8 games (he was RB04 over that span). Tough break. He would have made that zero RB draft sing.
- Manginas 438 points: Underperforming players marked this draft. 1st rounder CeeDee Lamb (WR05/74 points) was okay, but didn't approach the 123 points from 2023. 2nd rounder Jalen Hurts (QB10/76 points) was far below his 99 points from 2023. Most disappointing was Travis Etienne Jr. (RB40/22 points) who had 80 points in 2023. Tee Higgins (WR14/62 points) was a nice pick in the 5th round. He flipped between Hurts and Geno Smith (QB14/69 points) and somehow managed a 7th place finish at QB. Led the league in efficiency at 84% even while starting 31 different players, the most in the league. A pretty amazing feat.
- G Practice Unit 429 points: His first two draft picks, 1st rounder Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR03/85 points) and 2nd rounder Derrick Henry (RB04/106 points) were stellar. After that the wheels came off. 3rd rounder Isiah Pacheco (RB58/10 points) and 5th rounder Rashee Rice (WR88/22 points) both got hurt and 4th rounder DJ Moore (WR25/54 points) wasn't really startable. What really killed him was waiting on a QB and taking Caleb Williams (QB17/58 points) in round 6 and Justin Herbert (QB14/69) in round 8. Neither were startable which led him to trade for Brock Purdy (QB11/75 points). It didn't help, though, and he finished 11th at QB. Flubbed his kickers by drafting Dustin Hopkins (PK26/31 points) and Brett Maher (PK99/0 points). Despite not having kicked a FG all year, he didn't drop Maher until week 13, adding Nick Folk (PK21/41 points), who didn't help at all. Needless to say, he finished last at kicker. It was his first time finishing in the Pit.
- Pillow Biters 405 points: Another zero RB draft gone wrong. Drafted 3 WRs with the first 3 picks and none panned out: Tyreek Hill (WR26/54 points) disappointed, Cooper Kupp (WR32/48 points) got hurt and do did Stefon Diggs (WR48/36 points). Aaron Jones (RB13/73 points) was fine as a zero RB in the 4th round. Drafted Tua Tagovailoa (QB19/55 points) in the 5th round but he missed 5 games and was a little scary. Fortunately, he grabbed the steal of the draft with Baker Mayfield (QB03/117 points) in the 14th round and that kept him somewhat afloat. However, he had to trade him away to make up for shortcomings at other positions and grabbed Breece Hall (RB15/68 points) from Gordy in week 11. He lost a lot of points in the deal but he managed to stay off the bottom. Finishing 11th at RB is okay if you're leading the league at WR, like he did in 2021. However, he was only 7th at WR despite starting 3 WRs most of the year. Too many players hurt will do that to you.
- Whiskey Rebellion 400 points: The headline was 1st round bust Christian McCaffrey (RB55/12 points). 2nd rounder Davante Adams (WR13/63 points) and 3rd rounder Mike Evans (WR22/59 points) were okay but not great. None of his other draft picks worked out. 4 rounder Kyler Murray (QB13/72 points) wasn't really startable, and middle rounders like Travis Kelce (WR35/45 points), Zamir White (RB87/3 points) and Raheem Mostert (RB56/11 points) were all busts. Late round gem Bucky Irving (RB10/ 76 points) was the only notable draft pick, and a homer one at that. Can you say Yeast Infection?
